I was scared. My mechanicβs brain was trying to calculate how hot our little brakes were getting because there was absolutely no trick in the book that was able to keep me from riding them. Within five minutes Jacqui and I announced to our passengers that this van was, by her own power at least, making a one way trip. This mountain was clearly steeper than anything Penny had proved she could drive up. Then it all went bad.
