I know I left our last blog post on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I’m here to assure you Jacqui and I have not given up on our adventure. We are still enthusiastic to see all the wonderful things to come on this trip and are prepared to take on the hardships that will inevitably come with them.

Riding the ferry to Janitzio, thanks to our new friend Gorm for the photo!
This week has seen smiling, elation and new friendships. It’s shown us delicious foods and amazing sights. It’s seen mechanical failures, extreme exercises in patience, yelling, and even serious conversations of ending the trip. It’s seen hugs, bewilderment and self-reflection of just how lucky we are. It’s seen outright warfare that lead to 15 deaths. It’s been a hell of a week.

After Jacqui and I spent a quiet night sleeping out front of Rosa’s house, we woke to fulfill our promise of making Rosa coffee. However, she had some surprises for us. First off she prepared a traditional Mexican drink called elote. Elote is masa (cornmeal) mixed into warm water with a little sugar for taste. It’s incredibly healthy and reminded me of my mom making me Cream of Wheat when I was a kid. On top of that, we got a little lesson in making tortas. Not the sandwich as you may think, more of a traditional Mexican omelet. Jacqui and I will definitely be repeating both of these recipes down the road.

If you're reading this today, Jacqui and I are currently packing the PennyWagon to hit the road to explore the great unknown that lays South of Isla de Piedra. For this occasion, I feel some reflection is necessary, after all we’re not the dreamy-eyed, head-in-the-sky, no-regard-for-danger or perils type; to us there is significance in moving past this very familiar milestone in the road.

Finally leaving Baja and boarding another Mazatlan-bound ferry, Jacqui and I couldn’t help but feel excited and reflective. We’ve done this entire journey once before, even this boat ride, but still it feels like such a different experience. Last time we were sailing into the unknown. Now we were going across the Sea of Cortez to see friends and places that we are familiar with.
